Martlets Fall to Rhinos

The Martlets traveled to Watertown to take on Taft in a hard-fought matchup. Westminster had a strong start, possessing the ball well during the early minutes of the game. Despite Westminster controlling much of the early possession and tempo, Taft capitalized on a pair of early chances to take a quick 2-0 lead. The Martlets did a great job staying composed and not letting the score dictate their play. Early in the second quarter, Taft extended their advantage with a beautiful ball that found the back of the cage, making it 3-0, but the Martlets never backed down. Westminster continued to press, creating chances and dictating much of the play. Their persistence paid off in the third quarter when Gigi Filippetti ‘26 found the back of the net after some hectic play in front of the Taft goal, cutting into the deficit. This goal gave the Martlets a spark and they continued moving the ball well up field to create chances. The Martlets carried that momentum through the remainder of the game, battling hard on both ends of the field and showing strong teamwork and determination. While the final score didn’t reflect their effort, Westminster’s fight, resilience, and growth were clear throughout the contest, all promising signs for the rest of the season. The Martlets now shift their focus to Saturday where they will celebrate and acknowledge their amazing seniors in a home matchup with Berkshire.
