Martlets Defeat Deerfield

The Martlets battled their way to a 2–1 victory over Deerfield on Wednesday afternoon. It was a back-and-forth contest that lacked some of the team’s usual rhythm, but Westminster showed resilience and found a way to secure the result.
Mia Fluckiger ’26 opened the scoring midway through the first half, finishing a ball played over the top from classmate Maya Goddard ’26 with 25:48 left on the clock. After Deerfield equalized, the match turned into a true test of grit.
With just over 34 minutes remaining in the second half, Maeve Nicholas ’29 scored a scrappy goal, finishing off a corner from Callie Graby ’28. From there, the Martlets dug in defensively and held strong to preserve the win. The back line of Taryn Overstreet ’26, Hannah Coccaro ’27, Olivia Martin ’27, and Izzie Leone ’27, and goalkeeper Ellie Smith ’27 prevailed yet again.
