Martlets Shutout at Taft

The Martlets arrived at Taft with little time to warm up, which contributed to a slow start and difficulties maintaining possession early on. Taft came out strong, moving the ball quickly and applying heavy pressure. Despite two solid attempts on goal from Teddy Russell ‘26, Taft’s goalkeeper made the saves. With momentum in their favor, they capitalized on the pressure, scoring six times in the first half, though several questionable referee decisions played a role. One notable moment came when goalkeeper Will Gallagher ‘27 was down, and the ball continued in play until Taft managed to score.
At halftime, Coach Stump delivered a motivating talk that sparked new energy in the Martlets, and the team returned to the field with greater intensity. Mason Moritz ‘28 stood out with consistent effort and a strong performance, setting the tone for improved team play across the second half. Still, Taft managed to add four more goals before the final whistle. Despite the result, the Martlets demonstrated resilience and gained valuable lessons from the match, momentum they intend to carry into their next game.
Today’s Grit & Grace award goes to Mason Moritz ‘28 for his relentless efforts throughout the game despite the challenges on the field.
