Martlets Shutout by Choate

The Martlets traveled to play under the cherry blossom trees of Choate on a colder day than expected. Although the loss stung, it was more competitive than the outcome indicates. From the top-to-bottom, the Martlets played competitive matches and, by their own admission, tended to lose games on the margin of 40-40 points. Despite the losses, Marco Zheng ‘27 and Zach Li ‘27 played quite well in their singles matches. Alessio Suarez ‘28 and Luke Champoux ‘28 generated some of the most compelling tennis volleys at the top of the singles and doubles ladder. Captain Colin Daly ‘27 and Ethan McQueeney ‘27 fought hard in their second ladder doubles match, tying the game 3-3 before losing five games in a row on close points. Even our exhibition matches proved competitive as Brooks BeVier ‘28 and Jacob Boghosian ‘27 went to a tie-break but lost the closing points. We have a rematch against Choate next week. With a little bit of luck and some more consistent play, we can give them a run for their money.
