Martlets Fall to Deerfield

The Martlets traveled across state lines on a cold and rainy Saturday to face a talented and physical Deerfield team. Deerfield jumped out to a 3-0 lead, capitalizing on some defensive miscues before the Martlets settled in and slowed down the Big Green’s offense. Westminster found the back of the net at the start of the second quarter when Mike Basich ‘26 passed to attackman Arthur Lilley ‘27 for his first career goal as a Martlet. Westminster played Deerfield evenly into the second half before the Big Green went on a scoring spree to solidify their lead. Despite the loss, Westminster played hard for all forty minutes, an especially impressive feat considering they were missing five key players. Third Form defensemen Jack Perkins ‘28 and Maruli Sianturi ‘28 were especially strong on defense, helping the Martlets clear the ball and generate scoring opportunities. Jack Doherty ‘26 played hard all game and generated several scoring chances with his fast and skillful dodging. Goalie Jordan Pham ‘27 earned the Grit and Grace award for keeping the Martlets in the game with several big saves and for his composure on clears out of the defensive zone. Westminster will get back to work Monday in preparation for a home matchup against Choate on Wednesday.
