Martlets Fall to Pelicans

The Martlets took on the Pelicans on a chilly Monday night in Pettee Gym. The first quarter took a while for the Martlets to adjust to the Pelican’s quick style of play. After making some defensive adjustments, the girls were able to string together some stops. Unfortunately, it was a little too late and the Martlets had given up a double-digit lead by the end of the first quarter. Going into the second quarter the Marlets got on the board with a basket by Avauni Anderson ‘25. Once the girls got adjusted things started coming easier on both sides of the floor. Emma Isakoff ‘25 played phenomenal defense shutting down the Pelican's best player in the second half. Key defensive stops were also made by Adam Dembele ‘25 and Janet Kiburi ‘26. Offensively, the Martlets struggled in the first half only scoring three points. It wasn’t until the second half that the Martlets started to find their rhythm and get some open looks at the basket. Buckets were made by Bella Lilien ‘27, Audrey Tan ‘27, and Adam Dembele ‘25 to help keep the Martlets afloat. As usual, our hustle players; Ainslee Deptula ‘25, Caitlyn Eaton ‘25, and Arielle Anderson ‘25 all gave their best effort when on the court. In the end, the Pelicans offense was too much for our defense to handle. The girls put up a valiant effort and played with grace. The Martlets hope to put one more into the win column Wednesday against Kent.
