Martlets Fall to Kent

After an incredible comeback the Martlets fell to Kent School by only three points after being down by 17 at halftime. The girls came out very flat, with little to no energy on either side of the floor. The mistakes we were making were things we fixed weeks ago. Our regular plays were not working and the communication was lacking. Altogether, this led Kent to go on a large run and take a 12-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. During the break between the first and second quarters, I called upon the sixth formers and other leaders on our team to step up and help give us a spark. Luckily they answered. The Martlet's defensive energy shifted and the mistakes we were making in the first quarter were not happening. Kent was still able to score, however, with less ease and frequency. The Martlets struggled on the offensive side only scoring one free throw in the second quarter. At the end of the first half the school was 20-3. During the half, the Martlets regrouped and set purposeful intentions for the second half: get stops. Once that third quarter buzzer rang the tone of the Martlets had completely shifted. Key defensive stops were made by Emma Isakoff ‘25, Adam Dembele ‘25, and Bella Lilien ‘27. Each Martlet who stepped onto the court contributed their all to help their team get stops. After a short absence, Piper Lundin ‘26 entered the game and sunk a three-pointer. This helped give the Martlets the spark they needed. Avauni Anderson ‘25 grabbed some much-needed rebounds and got to the free-throw line to add to the Martlets comeback. At the end of the third quarter, the score was cut to 10. The fourth quarter was when the Martlets shifted gears and put on the pressure. Two key three-point baskets from Emma Isakoff ‘25 cut the lead to four and a free throw by Anderson ‘25 brought the Martlets within striking distance. The Martlets had a chance to score a Hail Mary three to tie the game, however, it did not go in. It was an incredible effort by all the girls who stepped on the floor, especially our hustle players; Ainslee Deptual ‘28, Arielle Anderson ‘28, and Caitlyn Eaton ‘28. The girls hope to end their season on a high note next week with a couple of wins.
