Martlets Fall to Pomfret

The Martlets traveled with Varsity to the eastern part of the state to take on Pomfret. What was expected to be a competitive match turned out to be so, with multiple 4 game matches being the difference between the Martlets winning and losing. Playing a combined “full ladder” match with varsity, we started with the even numbers overall(which turned out to be the JV odds). At #7, Andrew Ma ‘27 fought valiantly but dropped consecutive games in a match that felt closer than the score. At #5, Crosby Cutler ‘27 took his opening game before his opponent rallied to quickly take the final 3 games. At #1, Connor Scollans ‘26 won his match quickly and efficiently, losing just 10 points! To conclude the first round, Mathias Seber ‘26 dropped two tight first games at 10-12, 10-12. He rallied to take the third game 11-8, but fell 5-11 in the fifth to give Pomfret the 3-1 advantage after the first round. In the second round, Daniel Frid ‘27 also fought valiantly but dropped his match in 3 consecutive games, 11-7, 11-8 and 11-4 to seal the match for the home team. Will Henry ‘26 was down 5-10 and 5-9 in his first two games, but was able to win them both before cruising to an 11-6 win in the third game. Finally, William Jones ‘28 played a very tight and competitive 4 game match, which he dropped 12-10 in the fourth game. At exhibition, the Martlets were very successful and won all 6 exhibition matches. Kudos was given to the two martlets (Alessio Suarez ‘28 and Isaac Kwon ‘28) who agreed to play two exhibition matches to accommodate the hosts who had 20 players. This was a tough overall team loss given we won more matches overall, but lost the majority of the 7 matches scored. Win or lose, the Martlets battled hard and played good squash. After a few days of practice, we will be back in Kohn Squash Pavillion on Saturday when we take on Trinity Pawling at 3:30pm.
