Martlets Roll in Wallingford

The JV Boys’ Hockey team traveled down to Wallingford to take on traditional Founders’ League rival Choate. Despite something of a slow start, the Martlets settled in during the 2nd and 3rd period and overall netted 10 goals from eight different players to skate to a lopsided victory against a determined but undermanned Wild Boar squad. Jaden Goodsell ‘23 opened the scoring with 5 minutes to go in the opening stanza, with Jack Rockefeller ‘23 adding a second off a blast from the point less than a minute later. Leading 2-0 after the 1st, the Martlets never looked back. The team kept moving forward in the 2nd period with goals from Keegan Bankoff ‘22, Nick Orenstein ‘23, Jack Peterson ‘25 – his first goal for the Black and Gold – and Easton Masse ‘25. The scoring would continue in the 3rd: Goodsell and Masse both had their second goals of the night and Jack Adams ‘23 added two of his own. Luke Reiter ‘23 notched the final Martlet goal of the night on a nice combination passing play that earned assists for Stuart Dorman ‘23 and Orenstein. In this high scoring affair, virtually every player found their way on to the scoresheet. Alec Rosenbaum ‘23 had 12 saves, a few very strong ones, in shutting out the hosts for the first two periods; Third Former Max Hausman ‘25 made his Westminster debut in the 3rd period and made several fine saves of his own, including one on a breakaway. Overall, the coaches were pleased with the performance, particularly as the team has had so few practices to focus on systems and structure. There’s still some work to be done, however, as the coaches also have high hopes for the caliber of team play this group is capable of. The team will return to practice tomorrow with two games this weekend: St. Luke’s varsity team on Friday night at Jackson Rink and Northfield Mount Hermon on the road Saturday afternoon.
