Martlets Win Over Loomis

A quick turnaround brought another challenge to the short-manned Thirds' squad. Missing four of the six top middies and starting off slow, the boys were lucky to escape the first quarter with a 2-1 lead thanks, in large part, to the play of Juan Jo Garibay '20, who stood tall yet again against several Loomis opportunities. After the first intermission, however, the boys kicked it into gear. Behind the faceoff work of Max Brownback '21, Nate Swift '19 and Hunter Hoogkamp '21, and some excellent groundball play by LSM Jack Luppino '21 and midfielder Jonah Prentiss '22, Westminster was able to retain the possessions it lacked in the first quarter. Benno Wurts '22 and Luca de Sanctis '22 capitalized on these extra possessions, connecting several times to see the team take a commanding 7-2 lead into the half that it would not relinquish. Game balls went to Luppino, Wurts and de Sanctis for having the toughness to turn the tides for the Martlets in the second quarter.
