Strong Showing Against Talented EWS Squad

On a beautiful spring afternoon, Westminster hosted a talented team from the Ethel Walker School. Getting the match off to an promising start were No. 3 doubles Lizzy McCoy '20 and Christina Zahringer '20; on the next court over were No. 2 doubles Mairead DeFronzo '20 and Izzy Bailey '21. While neither team emerged victorious, the girls battled for every point. On the singles side, Isabel von Bargen-Burke '19 played No. 3 singles and Annie Brewer '21 played No. 4 singles. Von Bargen-Burke's opponent had a very strong serve, and von Bargen-Burke gave her a run for her money, but ultimately did not prevail. The team rallied around the remaining players. Playing No. 1, Jennifer Jerand '19 played a girl who was very consistent, but Jerand was steady and won her match 8-4. At No. 2 singles, Eda Chen '20 also played a girl who was her equal in ability, and won her match 8-6. The remaining No. 1 doubles team of Lily Carrel '19 and Siena Holowesko '21 were out on the courts for a long time. Although they fell behind in games for a period of time, they battled back to win 8-6. It was a good afternoon and the Martlets look forward to their trip to Hotchkiss for a rematch on Wednesday.
