Brian O’Callaghan Named Head Coach of Varsity Girls’ Lacrosse

After extending and completing a comprehensive search, Westminster announced that Brian O’Callaghan will serve as the Head Coach of the Varsity Girls’ Lacrosse program for the 2026 season. “Brian has distinguished himself throughout this process as the clear leader to guide our girls’ lacrosse program forward,” said Director of Athletics Tim Joncas ’00. “His championship experience, commitment to player development, and ability to build meaningful relationships position our program for sustained success. I could not be more excited about the direction of girls’ lacrosse under his leadership.”

Coach O’Callaghan brings more than 25 years of experience as a coach and player. He has a proven record of success, having led teams to multiple NYSAIS and FAA championships during his time at Rye Country Day School, where he also earned Western New England Assistant Coach of the Year honors. He has coached seven high school All-Americans and helped student-athletes go on to compete at top collegiate programs, including Harvard, Cornell, Penn, Bowdoin, Williams, Colby, West Point, and Duke.

As a player, O’Callaghan competed at nationally ranked Delbarton School and received the Thomas B. Hodgson Award (Unsung Hero Award), before continuing his career at Bowdoin College.

“Since arriving on Williams Hill, the energy of the girls’ lacrosse program has been a highlight,” said O’Callaghan. “I thoroughly enjoyed last season with them, and I am thrilled to coach this group while helping them build strong relationships and develop important skills to elevate their game.”

In addition to coaching, O’Callaghan serves as form dean for the Class of 2027 and teaches global history. He is also a corridor supervisor in Gund, where he lives with his wife, Alison, son, Aidan ’26, and daughter, Lily ’28.

Coach O’Callaghan will be supported by an outstanding assistant coaching staff including 2023 Saint Michael’s College graduate and former lacrosse captain, Peyton Edwards, and Olivia Coones, a 2015 University of Oregon graduate and former lacrosse captain. These coaches bring strong leadership, valuable experience, and a player-centered approach to the program.

“Brian embodies everything we value in a Westminster coach—experience, integrity, and a deep commitment to developing young people,” said Tim Joncas. “I am confident that he will continue to build a lacrosse program that reflects both competitive excellence and our broader educational mission.”
