Grandparents Day 2014

Despite the rainy weather, a record-breaking 220 grandparents visited Westminster Oct. 1 to participate in Grandparents Day. They spent the morning with their grandchildren visiting classes, having lunch in the dining hall and attending some athletic contests in the afternoon. For some it was their first visit to Westminster, while for others, it was one of many visits over the years.

Maureen and Matt Zagami, and Joan Seeley all visited Connor Seeley ’18. The Zagamis, who live on Long Island, visited Connor’s classes including band and theater. “It is a beautiful campus, and I’m inspired by the quality of the faculty,” said Maureen. “I especially liked math with Mrs. Loveland.” Matt found it “an eye-opener to modern teaching.” And Joan, who was visiting from the Saratoga, N.Y., area, said it was a “wonderful experience,” and she was “very inspired by the whole group of young people.”

Barbara and Greg Howey, who are from New Britain, Conn., visited their oldest grandson, Ashton Howey ’18, and said it was good to see how he was doing and what his classes are like.

And Betty and Jack Horrigan, who live in Avon, Conn., and attended Grandparents Day two years ago, were busy visiting three grandchildren: Declan Horrigan ’16, Jack Horrigan ’16 and Mason Horrigan’18. They said it was their first time attending chapel and found teaching quite different from when they were in school because of the use of technology in the classroom.
