Martlets Fall in New England Tournament

On a beautiful Saturday morning on Williams Hill, The Martlets took on a deep and talented team from Middlesex. The Martlets battled hard in all positions but were not able to come up with a win. The Martlets lost the doubles point following 8-1 and 8-3 losses at #1 and #2 doubles respectively. Both pairs (Liam Hibbard ‘27/Alex Brown ‘27 and Will Henry ‘26 and Noah Maltby ‘28) fought hard in their losses. Xavier Kahn ‘27 and Crosby Cutler ‘27 played some of their best tennis of the season in a competitive match at #3 doubles, that was pulled due to Middlesex taking the doubles point. In singles, the Martlets continued to battle but the visitors were just slightly too strong on the day. Daniel Frid ‘27, Alex Brown ‘27 and Liam Hibbard ‘27 were the 3 whose matches were completed. All 3 of those matches had some great points and were more competitive than their scores indicated. In the other matches, WIll Henry ‘26 and Noah Maltby ‘28 were both involved in the most competitive matches of the day. WIll battled to a 4-6 first set before the second set was unfinished. Noah had a similar experience, where he dropped a tight first set 3-6 and was on serve down 3-4 in the second. Xavier Kahn ‘27 played a tough opponent at #6 and was down in his second set when the match was called so that Middlesex could rest up for their upcoming semifinal later today. Kudos to Middlesex for a strong and deep team who played very well on the day. Both sides were gracious in victory/defeat and the Martlets enjoyed a Jersey Mikes lunch to kick off the final weekend of the season. The Martlets look forward to our final match on Wednesday against Berkshire.
