Martlets Fall to Deerfield

The Martlets returned to our home courts for a challenging match against the always strong crew from Deerfield. The visitors started strong in doubles, taking #1 and #3 doubles fairly quickly, with #2 doubles not too far behind. Crosby Cutler ‘27 and Xavier Kahn ‘27 started off ahead in their match at #3, but their opponents were able to turn it around for the 8-3 win. Liam Hibbard ‘27 and Alex Brown ‘27 battled also, but lost at #1 doubles to a strong pair. Will Henry ‘26 and Noah Maltby ‘28 played their opponents very tough at #2 doubles, falling 8-4 including several deuce (no-ad) points. Moving into singles, Will Henry ‘26 played a tough opponent at #3 singles and lost 6-0;6-1. Noah maltby ‘28 had some chances in his match, but fell to a more consistent lefty 6-2;6-2. Xavier Kahn ’27 fought hard also at #6 singles against a solid player but lost 6-0;6-1. After losing the first set 0-6, Daniel Frid ‘27 was determined to not miss in the second set. He ran everything down and got every ball back in the court, forcing mistakes by his opponent. He took the second set 6-1 and used this momentum to take the third set breaker 10-2. Alex Brown ‘27 played many deuces against his hard hitting opponent at #2 singles, falling 6-3;6-2. Finally, Liam Hibbard ‘27 also played several deuces against a very strong opponent at #1 singles. He had his chances, but fell 6-3;6-2 to a strong opponent. The Martlets look to right the ship on Saturday when we travel to Trinity-Pawling.
