Martlets Defeat Griffins

The Martlets made the trek across Route 44 for a rare evening JV contest against the Griffins of Pomfret, and from the outset Westminster looked comfortable in unfamiliar surroundings. Calvin Bixby ’28 wasted little time establishing the tone, scoring five quick points to give the Black and Gold an early advantage. Finn “the QB” Cathey ’26 did what quarterbacks do– distribute– adding two assists that kept the offense flowing, while Aidan O’Callaghan ’26 set a defensive standard on the perimeter, contesting touches and disrupting rhythm. Protecting a lead in an opposing gym is never routine, and that became the focus after halftime. Sonny Darnowski ’28 responded with his most complete performance of the season, tallying 10 points and controlling the glass with eight rebounds. Kareum Skovron-Rasheed ’29 chipped in with two points and a well-timed assist, and Liam Murray ’26 added another steady contribution inside. A three-pointer from Finn Williams ’26 provided more breathing room, and Brody DiBeneditto ’26 supplied the final touches to secure the team victory. A composed road performance for the Martlets, who now return home to welcome Suffield Academy on Friday in what promises to be a spirited weeknight affair.
