Martlets Defeat Winged Beavers

On the eve of Winter Long Weekend, Westminster made the trip to Avon Old Farms for a rematch between two familiar opponents following last Friday’s closely contested overtime game. With both teams eager to build on recent play, the stage was set for another competitive NEPSAC matchup.
Westminster struck first in the opening period, with Gus McGarvey ’26 finding the back of the net to give Westy an early lead. Avon responded to even things up before the break, and the teams headed into the first intermission tied 1–1.
The second period belonged to Westminster. Brenden Gilooly ’26 restored the lead by finishing a quality chance off a well-timed pass from Ryan Holmes ’28. Momentum stayed with the Martlets as McGarvey ’26 added his second of the night, converting on a feed from Owen Burke ’26 to make it 3–1 heading into the third.
Avon pushed late and cut the deficit to one with just over four minutes remaining, but Westminster stayed composed under pressure. With the Avon goalie pulled, George Tsatas ’26 sealed the outcome with an empty-net goal.
Ryan Galaski ’26 was excellent between the pipes for Westminster, stopping 31 of 33 shots and anchoring a strong road performance.
Final score: Westminster 4, Avon Old Farms 2 — a hard-fought contest and a solid road result heading into the long weekend.
