Martlets Fall to AOF

The Martlets welcomed the Winged Beavers of Avon Old Farms on Saturday evening, and the game quickly settled into the familiar rhythm of runs. Avon put together two decisive stretches—a 9–0 run and later an 8–0 surge—but Westminster answered in the second half with an 8–0 run of its own, trimming the deficit to ten and injecting life into the contest. Sonny Darnowski ’28 met Avon’s physicality head-on, finishing with five rebounds and eight points, while Finn Cathey ’26 added five points of his own. Liam Hibbard ’27 did important work on the glass with five rebounds, emblematic of a collective effort that saw contributions up and down the lineup. Maruli Sianturi ’28 continued his strong stretch of play, turning in another polished performance marked by physical defense, five points, and a particularly well-timed assist that reflected his growing confidence. The perimeter shots never quite cooperated for the Martlets, but the competitiveness was evident throughout. There was grit in the performance, and that, too, matters as the season unfolds. Westminster now turns its attention to the road, making the long trip across Route 44 to Millbrook before Winter Long Weekend.
