Martlets Shutout AOF
The Martlets welcomed the Winged Beavers for a Saturday tilt on the Hovey Turf on a hot fall afternoon. Westminster controlled the ball for most of the game, but Avon played tough defense, and their goalie made some big saves to keep the ball out of the net for the entire first half. The Martlets regrouped at halftime and came out ready to compete, leading to a beautiful goal from Chris Chang ‘29 off a perfect pass from Gabe Rodrigues ‘29. While Westminster controlled the game, the Winged Beavers had several scoring chances–all stymied by excellent goaltending from Kareum Skovron-Rasheed ‘29. CJ Berry ‘29 was very tough and proactive in the midfield, helping to create several of Westminster’s scoring chances. The Winged Beavers had some opportunities to tie the game in the final minutes, but the Martlet defense, led by excellent play from Aidan Glassey ‘29, held on to secure their first victory of the season. Chris Chang ‘29 earned the Grit and Grace Award for playing tough in the second half and scoring Westminster’s decisive goal.
