Martlets Fall to Eaglebrook

The JV boys went down fighting against a talented Eaglebrook squad, losing 6-1 in some hard-fought matches.  Although he lost in 3 games (with a close 9-11 score in the third), Team Captain Daniel Frid ‘27 played with a lot of heart, chasing down some difficult balls and forcing his opponent into several tight spots.  Similarly, Alessio Suarez ‘28, Sam Jiang ‘28, and Tyson Mertz ‘27 similarly improved as their top-of-the-ladder matches continued, with each paying attention to their opponents’ weaknesses and trying to take advantage of those whenever possible.  Rafa Rodrigues ‘28 lost a tough 4-game battle at the #7 spot, while #6 Zach Li ‘27 really showed that patience is sometimes the name of the game in squash.  Dropping the first 2 games, Zach then took the next 3, as he really started focusing on keeping his opponent deep in the back-court, and biding his time until he could put away a winning shot or force his opponent into an error.  The team faced the defeat with spirit, and a desire to hop back on the courts at our next practice to work on some fundamentals before our holiday break.

Grit & Grace Award:  Zach Li ‘27, for battling back from a 0-2 start to take a 3-2 victory.  Zach showed both patience and skill, working several of our drills from practice into his match  repertoire.
