Martlets Shutout by Deerfield

It was a blustery and cold afternoon on the upper fields at Westminster. The 3rds Girls’ soccer team played a rematch game hoping to avenge their first game of the season in which they lost 8-0 up at the Deerfield campus. Though the team played much better, the score ended in a 4-0 loss. The team can hold their heads up high however, as they carried just a 2-0 score into the half. At this point in the season the team knows how far they have come from just under two months earlier. Many players have made great strides in their performance. This game saw excellent play from Ellie Mallet ‘28 and Angelina Mertz ‘29 on defense. Susan Wang ‘29 returned to defense after playing several games at the midfield position and held her own. Elena Abud ‘28 played several positions in the game and Lily McMillan ‘27 excelled in goal. The game also showcased a powerful team moment as they celebrated their only senior, Jennifer Weber ‘26, who was injured for the season just a week and a half earlier. The team will hope to close out the season with a victory against Miss Porter’s next Wednesday.
