Our first defeat

Frantz Batoh
In a challenging match against Deerfield Academy, the Martlets faced a 1-4 defeat that tested their resolve. The game began with the Martlets showcasing nearly total ball control, and their excellent circulation of the ball led to an early breakthrough. Just ten minutes in, Charlotte Lundin ’29 delivered a beautifully orchestrated goal that gave the Martlets a promising lead.

For the first twenty minutes, the Martlets executed their game plan flawlessly. However, the momentum shifted abruptly when Deerfield equalized with a perfect strike eleven minutes later. From that moment, the dynamic of the match changed. Just five minutes after the equalizer, Deerfield scored again, taking a 2-1 lead and leaving the Martlets on the back foot.

The second half saw Deerfield come out with renewed strength and physicality, putting the Martlets under pressure. Despite their best efforts, the team struggled to regain control, and Deerfield capitalized on this, scoring two additional goals to wrap up the game at 4-1. This upset will serve as a valuable lesson for the Martlets. They will need to focus on improving their ball possession and enhancing communication among players. While frustrations arose due to the aggressive play of their opponents, the girls remain determined to improve their athletic skills as the season progresses. Despite the loss, the match provided valuable insights and laid a strong foundation for future improvement.

Our GRIT & Grace award went to Hally Brown ‘28 once more for her strong presence in the game.
