Big win!!

Frantz Batoh
Against all odds, the Martlets began the season with a 5-0 outside victory over Hotchkiss. From the beginning, they set the tone by running a kick-and-run offense and maintaining nearly total ball control. The duel started at exactly 3:00 p.m. Both teams competed, but the pressure of a relentless attack by the Martlets on the field was relentless. They nearly totally controlled the game.

In the First Half of the Game, just 11 minutes into the match, Ava Aponte ’28 broke the deadlock with a powerful strike that deflected off a Hotchkiss defender and found the back of the net. The Martlets continued to dominate, and 22 minutes later, Lexie Willis ’26 doubled the lead with a precise long-range effort from 20 meters away from the goal post. Although Hotchkiss began to push back in the final stretch of the half, the Martlets’ defense held firm, and the team entered halftime with a 2–0 advantage.

In the Second Half of the game, having made the tactical changes, the team lifted their performance to another level. They pass the ball very well and communicate with each other. Eliza Lane ’28 artfully secured the Martlets’ lead with a goal on target after a cross from Margaux Walter ’27. Aponte, who struck again right after that, got her brace with a great score assisted by Giana Monaco ’27. The Martlets were well on their way to a resounding victory when Charlotte Lundin ’29, on a stunning free-kick, sailed directly into the net, thus sealing the 5-0 win. This dominating performance was a testament to the team’s technical skills and team spirit, which set an interesting tone for the coming season.

Our GRIT & Grace award went to Hally Brown ‘28 and Caitlyn Eaton ’28, whose defensive skills helped contain attack attempts from Hutchkiss.
