Martlets Fall in Tri-Match

Saturday saw the girls make the long trip to Greenwich for another tri-match.
The girls knew they would have their hands full with Deerfield, and the Green Doors showed why they are a top tier team, winning all seven matches 3-0. The Martlets fought hard, however, and each of them earned at least five points in one of their games. Most  noteworthy ws the effort made by Marti Jaramillo ‘27, who made many great gets and some really nice kills in extending her opponent to an 11-8, 11-9, 11-6 outcome.
Perhaps inspired by their relatively strong showing in the first match, the girls hung tough with the also-strong hosts from Sacred Heart, making an interesting match of it. Sophia Lazor ‘27 played some of her best squash of the season, combining patience, great decision-making, and deadly kill shots in a dominant 3-0 win at #1. The Tigers’ depth proved decisive, as they took the next four matches in the ladder, all at 3-0, to secure the team win. The Martlets made the final score close, however, by taking the bottom two spots, as Emily Fonner ‘26 and Natasha Johnson ‘27 each earned 3-1 wins. Fonner was especially effective hitting sharp winners, while Johnson wore her opponent down by keeping points alive with unlikely gets and often ending them with timely volleys. Luckily, lots of lessons were learned on the long journey
