Martlets Fall to Rhinos

After three games on the road last week, the Martlets were back on the bus again for a Friday night game at Taft. Unfortunately, the visitors got off to a slow start against the Rhinos, struggling to contain their athletic guards and to maintain possession on the offensive end. The Martlets continued to battle, forcing contact when their shots did not fall and ultimately earned the majority of their first half points from the free throw line. In the second half, Westminster found better scoring opportunities against Taft’s zone, including some clutch 3 pointers from Sophie McKenna ‘27, Charlotte Tyler ‘28, and Kaitlyn Buda ‘27. Parker Perillo ‘26 and Gianna Monaco ‘27 also helped lead the defensive effort and corralled Taft’s attacking guards, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome in the second half and the Martlets fell to a talented Taft team. For leading the team in rebounds and for hitting her first 3 of the season, the team chain was awarded to Sophia McKenna ‘27.
