Martlets Shutout AOF

The Martlets travelled across town lines to take on the Winged Beavers for the third time this season. While the first game was a 1-0 battle until the end and the second one was a dominant performance from the Martlets, this match fell somewhere in between. Westminster kept the ball in Avon’s zone for most of the game, but had trouble generating scoring opportunities. The Winged Beavers capitalized on some open breakaways in the early going, getting a few clear shots at the goal, only to be stymied by keeper Kareum Skovron-Rasheed’29. With the score tied 0-0 at the half, Westminster came out in the second half focused on being more strategic in the offensive zone. This strategy paid off, in big part because of Dylan Park’29 who scored two goals. On both occasions, Dylan dribbled by several defenders and kicked the ball into the bottom left corner of the net. Kyle Zhou’29 added a third goal late in the game to secure the Martlet victory. Beckett Long '29 played his best game of the season, “bringing the juice” with his hustle to help generate scoring opportunities. Blake Balavender ‘29, Derek Liu ‘29 and Jacob Flores ‘29 were all very solid on defense and are among the team’s hardest working and most improved players. The Grit and Grace Award goes to Dylan Park ‘29 for his determination and productivity on the pitch. The Martlets will get back to work this week to prepare for a rematch against the Granby Bears on Wednesday.
