Martlets Fall to DA

Tough afternoon for your Martlets this afternoon as it seemed as though they were still on the Fall Long Weekend Break…Unlike our most recent road trip which was filled with great music playing on the boom box and lots of energy, today was quiet as the boys slept most of the ride and listened on their own headsets. Perhaps we also had too much pre-game time and just weren’t in our normal rhythm. Whatever factors contributed today, we just couldn’t get going. DA is a strong team (now 6-1-1) consisting of skilled soccer players who play well together.

Deerfield scored three times in the first half (11’, 13’, and 37’) with the last goal coming off a nice cross from their right side for a tap-in goal at the far post. DA notched another three goals in the second half (13’, 19, and 24’). Their first goal of the second half scored on a nice volley from a cross from the right side. Deerfield also dominated in corner kicks (6-1). The Martlet defense continued to try to press to create offsides against Deerfield and were successful eight times during the game.

While we continued to work hard throughout the tilt, we resorted to some sloppy play with too much pushing and not enough ball possession. We’ll regroup at practice tomorrow as we get ready for a visit to AOF on Saturday afternoon.
