Martlets Fall on the Road

In a challenging outing on the road, the Martlets fell to Deerfield, 6-2, in a hard-fought game on Wednesday afternoon. Deerfield came out strong from the opening whistle, quickly taking control and building an early lead. The Martlets found themselves in a deep hole early on, trailing by multiple goals as Deerfield’s offense capitalized on its chances. Despite the tough start, Westminster showed resilience and grit throughout the match. The Martlets got on the board late in the second quarter as a result of an offensive corner.  Junior Stella Spitz read the play well and put the ball in the circle. The ball hit off the stick of Junior Kate Epke and eventually to Senior captain Pippa Jiranek who put the Martlets on the board! This goal gave the Martlet’s a good boost going into half time. The team continued battling hard and eventually executed another successful corner. Lily O’Callaghan ‘28 received the ball and buried it home, assisted by Stella Spitz ‘27. The Martlets continued to claw their way back into the game, however, the early deficit proved too steep to overcome. Westminster looks to build on their second-half momentum as they prepare for their next matchup on the road, this Saturday, against Kingswood-Oxford.

Our Grit and Grace player of the game is sophomore Lizzie Filippetti! Lizzie gave the Martlet’s a spark through her consistent effort and game play.
