Martlets Defeat Salisbury

The Martlets returned to our home courts for the first time in 2 weeks to take on Salisbury. Seeking revenge after a 4-3 loss last year, the Martlets came prepared in doubles. It was a beautiful, sunny day with temperatures in the mid 80s, perfect tennis weather! William Jones ‘28 and Calvin Bixby ‘28 started strong and took their match at #2 doubles 8-1. They set each other up well and continue to make a strong pair. Khang Ngo ‘27 and issac Kwon ‘28 partnered for the first time and also quickly won their match at #3 doubles 8-2. Crosby Cutler ‘27 and Xavier Kahn ‘27 took the scenic route to victory through some serving troubles and a slow pace on the ball. They battled through some tough games and won 7-2 in a breaker. We went out for singles with a 1-0 lead, and were ready for singles. First off was Rohan Satpathy ‘27 at #6 singles for the first time this year with a quick and efficient 8-1 victory. Jeffrey Niu ‘26 was next off at #3 singles with a clean and efficient 8-2 win. Caden Cramer ‘27, at #5 singles, played his opponent very tough even while struggling with the heat in his 6-8 loss. #1 and #2 Xavier Kahn ‘27 and Sonny Darnowski ‘28 finished in quick succession, with clean 8-3 and 8-4 wins respectively. Finally, Connor Gray ‘26 sealed the win with a 8-3 win at #4 singles. The Martlets were happy with the win, and happy with the pizza courtesy of the Niu family after the match. The spirits were high leading into the holiday weekend with Monday's Hill Holiday, and we will be back on our home courts Wednesday when Taft travels to Simsbury.
