Martlets Fall to Salisbury

Westminster faced off against a tough and skilled Salisbury team at home on a sunny Wednesday afternoon. The Martlets came out strong, playing solid team defense and controlling the ball in the offensive zone, but they were unable to capitalize on a few scoring chances in the early going. The speedy Crimson Knight offense took control of the game late in the first quarter as the Martlet’s defense broke down and the offense struggled to convert passes. Eventually Andrew Sala ‘26 netted a goal for the Martlets in the second quarter and Westminster went into the half down 6-1. The Martlets came out strong in the third quarter and Aidan O’Callaghan added a goal to give the squad some momentum before Salisbury sealed their victory with several more goals. The Martlets played hard to the final whistle as Tyler Ungerman ‘26 scored his first goal of the season right before time expired. Jordan Pham ‘26 made some big saves in net and Lane Gallagher ‘25 kept the team going in the second half by hustling hard and leading by example. Connor Scollans earned the Grit and Grace award, leading the squad in ground balls and setting the tone for effort and toughness. The Martlets will get back to the fundamentals in practice in preparation for Saturday’s matchup against Trinity Pawling.
