Martlets Fall to Pelicans

The Westminster JV Girls ice hockey team faced a formidable opponent this week, ultimately falling 8-3 to a talented Loomis squad. Despite the deficit, the Martlets displayed impressive resilience and a "never-quit" attitude that defined the latter half of the game. The opening frame saw a flurry of activity from the Loomis offense, but Joanna Halle (’29) managed to find the back of the net to keep Westminster in the hunt early on. After stabilizing the pace in the second period, the Martlets entered the third with renewed energy. Anna Klapman (’26) ignited the late-game surge with a sharp goal, capitalizing on excellent setup work from linemates Veronica Edwards (’27) and Chloe Corneau (’29). Joy Li (’28) followed suit, netting the final goal off a precise pass from Halle. In the crease, Lily Pokorny (’29) remained a steadfast force. Facing a barrage from the Loomis forwards, she stood tall with 15 saves, showcasing great poise under pressure. While the scoreboard favored the Pelicans, the Martlets’ elevated enthusiasm and offensive execution in the final period provided plenty of momentum to carry into their next matchup at Hotchkiss.
