Martlets Sweep Griffins

The Martlets took their momentum from a great week last week into a match with Pomfret. After the bus ride and a solid warmup, the girls were ready to go from the off. Lucy Morton ‘26, Luna Yang ‘26 and Fatima Al Abood ‘28 got the Martlets underway with solid wins at #2, #4, and #6 respectively. Lucy had a couple of tight first games before dominating her third 11-1 to get the first point for the Martlets. Fatima followed her with some great squash and backed up her solid deep rails with good short shots. Luna played some tight games, but took them all with scores of 8,7,8. Clover Cooper ‘26 sealed the victory for the Martlets with an efficient victory at 3,2,3 at #1. Her short game was the highlight, putting many points away with a killer drop shot. Lilly McMillen ‘27 soon followed with a 3,3,4 victory at #5. Lilly was in full control of this match from the start. Saleha Rahimi ‘27 was on course for another clean victory at #3 with a 2 game lead and a big third game lead, but her opponent chipped away at the lead and evened the game at 9-9. Not to be disturbed and determined to not have to play a fourth game, Saleha took the last two points quickly to seal another win. Finally, Clara Covill ‘26 played clean squash at #7 (and tied Clover with the fewest points dropped today) with a 2,2,4 win to seal the sweep for the Martlets. FInally, in her return after illness, Lily Abdel-Meguid ‘26 played a very tight match at exhibition. After splitting the first two games, she dominated game 3 11-3 with some deep shots. Her opponent won a marathon fourth game 13-11 before taking a competitive final game 11-8. The Martlets will have a rest this weekend before a challenging week of matches next week, beginning with a home match against Choate on Wednesday at 3:30.
