Martlets Defeat Deerfield

The Martlets (traveling with only 6 people), braved the snow to take the trek up to Deerfield. After an almost 2 hour drive through the snow and a fun adventure trying to find the squash courts, the martlets pulled off something the team had not done in a long time- beating Deerfield! Going in down a point due to a forfeit on #7, the Martlets knew their work was cut out for them against a strong team from Deerfield. Regardless, the Martlets came out strong and won the first two games in all 3 even matches. Wynne Pritchett ‘28 continued her strong run of form at #4, taking a routine second and third games after a tight opening one. Clara Covill ‘26, playing up at #6 today, won a tight first 2 games before closing out the third game 11-6 to put the Martlets ahead 2-1. Lucy Morton ‘26 closed out the first round with a 3-1 win. After a good start to go up 2 games and tied at 10-10, her opponent hit two good serves to take game 3. Lucy was unphased and carried her earlier momentum into an 11-4 win in game 4 to take the Martlets up 3-1. Saleha Rahimi ‘27 continued her excellent run of squash with an efficient 3-0 win at #3 to keep her undefeated season alive and seal the victory for the Martlets. Clover Cooper ‘26 split her first two games against a strong opponent at #1 by taking a 13-11 game in game 2. Her opponent continued her strong play to close out the match with a 3-1 win. Finally, Luna Yang ‘26 found herself in another 5 game battle. After dropping the first, she made some good adjustments to take a 12-10 second game before an 11-5 third game. She dropped the fourth game, which allowed both teams to have most of their team watching for the 5th game. Luna stayed strong and closed out a quick 5th game 11-4 to seal the 5-2 win for the Martlets. The martlets brought excellent energy to this match after a long week, seeing us win all 3 matches played! The martlets look to continue their strong run of form Wednesday at Pomfret.
