Martlets Shutout by AOF

The Martlets fell to a tough, talented and disciplined Avon Old Farms team on a sunny and hot spring afternoon in Simsbury. Westminster came out playing some of their best lacrosse of the year, controlling the ball in the offensive zone and creating scoring chances off dodges from fast midfielders Jack Doherty ‘26 and Caden Weichselbaumer’28. Unfortunately the Martlets’ early shots were stymied by the Avon goaltender and the Winged Beavers eventually took control of the game late in the first quarter. The Martlets, as they have done all season, competed hard until the final whistle, but ultimately had trouble gaining any momentum against the Winged Beavers. Lane Gallagher ‘25 continued to lead the team through his example by always giving the extra effort, Wayne Kelly was the Martlets’ toughest and most dependable defender, and Caden Weichselbaumer’28 earned the Grit and Grace award by playing with toughness and class all day, especially when battling for ground balls.
