Martlets Fall to Taft

We traveled to Taft for our second away match of the season, knowing it would be a tough challenge. The day was beautiful for tennis, and the team competed with great energy from start to finish.
We opened the match with three doubles contests. Elsa Koh ‘26 and Clover Cooper ‘26 faced a very strong team at the number one position. Although they had a slow start, they found their rhythm and played some excellent tennis, especially at the net where both teams exchanged impressive volleys. Despite the loss, they were just one extra shot away from taking many of the key points.
Remi Morello ‘25 and Lauren Neuman ‘25 competed at number two doubles. They faced an experienced team and, after making a few mid-match adjustments, kept the match close. They gave it their all but ultimately came up short.
At number three doubles, Lucy Morton ‘27 and Charlotte Tyler ‘28 played an aggressive match against a team of heavy hitters. Their net play and positioning allowed them to be assertive with their volleys. They worked well together, finding success through teamwork and effort, though they also narrowly lost their match.
In singles, Elsa Koh ‘26 played at the number one spot against a high-level opponent. The match was filled with long, competitive rallies, and while Elsa lost, many of the games were tightly contested.
Helen Marshall ‘25 battled at number two singles. She pushed her opponent in nearly every game, many of which went to deuce, showing great fight and composure throughout the match.
Clover Cooper ‘26 played strong at number three singles. She put forth a solid effort against a talented opponent and left it all on the court.
Lauren Neuman ‘25 competed at number four singles. She played a determined match, producing some excellent points and showing great resilience, despite falling short.
Charlotte Tyler ‘28 played number five singles. After a slow start, she made key adjustments in the second set, turning it into a very competitive battle. She continues to gain valuable experience with each match.
Lucy Morton ‘27 rounded out the lineup at number six singles. She made significant improvements in the second set, playing with great heart and fighting for every point. Lucy continues to show growth with every match she plays.
Although we lost the match, we gained a lot from the experience. Competing against a strong team like Taft made us better and will help prepare us for what’s ahead. We’re proud of the effort and energy our team brought to the courts.
