Storm, Vacation & Travel Information

SNOW DAYS
Parents may call the school's switchboard (860) 408-3000 after hours for information related to bad weather. The Director of Studies will post Snow Day protocol via the school’s Community e-mail.

If any student anticipates a late arrival or absence, we ask that parents:
  1. call the switchboard (860) 408-3000, or
  2. call or email the Form Dean (list to the right), or
  3. email Janet Reed at jreed@westminster-school.org
Any day student may come to school if distance or improved conditions later in the day make attendance feasible. We ask teachers to slow the pace of classes and emphasizing review. Because such a large percentage of the student body lives on campus as boarders or lives nearby, we rarely cancel classes.

VAN TRANSPORTATION ARRANGEMENTS 2016-2017
The Deans’ Office coordinates van service to Bradley Airport and Union Station (bus and rail) in Hartford during vacations. School vans drop students at these transportation centers, and then students make their own arrangements to complete the journey home. Since students return to school after vacations at different times and from different locations, coordinating local van transportation for their return is more complicated. After each vacation, the Deans’ Office will arrange for vans to have one pick-up time at the bus/train station in Hartford and at Bradley Airport. These van times will be posted on Westminster email News Conference the day of arrival back to school. Students usually arrange for a taxi to drive them back to school if the van pickups don’t match their arrival schedule.

CHARTER BUS
To facilitate the departure of students from school and their return to school, we do provide a bus service between Westminster, Darien and New York City. While we recognize that these arrangements may not be entirely convenient for all families, we hope that many families will find them an improvement over relying on the bus or train schedules. Students must give a cell phone/contact number in case we need to contact you for any reason on the day of the trip. We will provide you with the cell phone number of the chaperone on the bus.

Each student will be charged $60 for each trip, irrespective of the final destination. In order for us to offer this bus service, we must have enough students to cover the expenses of hiring the bus and paying for the chaperone. Please understand that once you or your child reserves a seat, you will be billed $60. In order to get a refund, students must contact the Dean on Duty the day before departure with any cancellations.

PICK UP AND DROP OFF LOCATIONS
We will be using the Noroton Heights train station parking lot at Exit 10 going both North and South on Interstate 95. In New York City, the bus will use the Metropolitan Museum of Art as its drop-off/pick-up point. If students sign up for the last destination, the bus will also stop at JFK airport (drop off only). When returning to school the bus will start in New York (students arriving at JFK must get tansportation to the MET) and then to Darien.

FALL WEEKEND
If enough families contact us to reserve a seat, we will plan a bus at the return of Fall Long Weekend. A bus will leave from Metropolitan Museum of Art on Tuesday, October 25 at 4:00 p.m. and will stop in Darien at 5:30 p.m. before arriving at school around 7:30 p.m.
