The staff of the Technology Department provides teachers and students with the support and electronic tools that will enrich their educational experience. This is achieved by providing information access through a reliable network infrastructure, by enhancing communication through voice and data services, and by fostering a collaborative learning environment through the use and availability of computer technology.
Westminster School provides information and voice technology resources to faculty, staff, and students for academic and administrative use. The campus network extends data and telephone service to every classroom, dormitory room, and office on campus via a high-speed fiber backbone. Wireless network access is available campus wide.
program (Westminster Interactive Summer Experience) kicks off its third summer with an exciting array of online courses for middle and high school students. From the study of mythology, to poetry and algebra, from politics and genetics, to Chinese language and AP history, the courses are designed to prepare students for the coming school year as well as stimulate their curiosity and develop study skills which will help them in all their future academic pursuits.
These courses are not offered for credit but rather re-engage students in subject material in the middle of the summer and build on their skills and comprehension of material before the next year begins. The virtual class is much like a tutorial; in addition to getting individualized attention from the WISE faculty members, students participate in online group sessions. We limit class sizes in order to maintain low student : teacher ratios and to ensure that each student can move through the WISE course at his or her appropriate pace. Students can expect to be engaged for 2-3 hours each day during the two-week period. Parents receive feedback from WISE teachers in the form of a summative assessment of students’ work as well as reminders if the student is not meeting the course expectations.
