Technology Support

The staff of the Technology Department provides teachers and students with the support and electronic tools that will enrich their educational experience. This is achieved by providing information access through a reliable network infrastructure, by enhancing communication through voice and data services, and by fostering a collaborative learning environment through the use and availability of computer technology.

Westminster School provides information and voice technology resources to faculty, staff, and students for academic and administrative use. The campus network extends data and telephone service to every classroom, dormitory room, and office on campus via a high-speed fiber backbone. Wireless network access is available campus wide.

A Living Framework for a Future-Ready Community

Navigating the Future with Intent: The Westminster AI Framework

At Westminster, we are meeting the challenge of Artificial Intelligence in education head-on. Guided by the introduction of our Academic Technologist and the work of our school-wide AI Committee, we are committed to understanding how this "agentic" technology impacts our mission to provide an exceptional education focused on a life of service.

Why a Framework, Not Just a Policy? We believe that in a landscape of rapid technological volatility, a rigid policy is not enough. Instead, we are developing a Human-Centered AI (HAI) Framework. This "living document" allows us to remain agile, moving from a reactive stance to a proactive one. It ensures that AI is used as a "bicycle for the mind"—a tool that augments human inquiry rather than replacing it.

A Collaborative Approach: Our framework is built on our community pillar. We are currently synthesizing insights from our faculty, parents, and students to ensure our guidelines align with our core values. We are already engaging students in conversations about ethical use, digital literacy, and the specific academic expectations required to maintain the integrity of their original thought.

What to Expect in July 2026:
This page will feature a Centralized AI Resource Hub. This hub will provide:
  • Clear Scaffolding: Specific examples of appropriate AI use for employees and students.
  • Data Privacy Guardrails: Transparent protocols regarding our enterprise-grade tools and the strict protection of student Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
  • Curriculum Integration: Insights into how we are using AI to enhance research, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
We invite you to stand by as we generate this important guidance. Our goal is simple: human control leading to boundless learning.

For any questions about AI at Westminster, please contact our Academic Technologist, Jonathan Chastain, at technology@westminster-school.org.
