Second Girls' Lacrosse steps up to defeat talented team from Loomis

A total team effort helped secure the victory for the Martlets on Wednesday over a very talented (9-1) team from Loomis Chaffee. McKenna Burelle '17 drove to goal after grabbing the draw, scoring in the first 30 seconds of the game. A minute later, Shannon Keefe '19 rolled the crease to net the second and then assisted Lily Farriss '19 on the third goal a few minutes later. The Martlet defense was on fire all day, stymying the Pelicans' offensive drives. The Martlet goalie Nadia Lee '18 turned away three of the Pelicans' early shots, as the Martlet offense scored the first five goals of the game before the Pelicans found their footing, scoring twice by halftime.

The beginning of the second half was dominated by the Pelicans as they came roaring back to even the score. Game on! After trading a few goals, the Martlets took control of the game for the final ten minutes as they netted six goals and allowed just one. While the Martlet offense executed their plays well and scored beautiful goals, the unsung heroes of the game were the players on the bench, who were helping to call plays and loudly supporting their teammates. Goalie Lee ended the game with a career-high nine saves and the defensive unit of Liza Lennox '18, Maddie Dwyer '18, Lexi Organ '16, Caroline Percival '19, Susie Renehan '19, Brinley Cuddeback '17, Julia Carter '16 executed beautiful slides and communicated well all day. A terrific win for the team.
