Third Girls' Lacrosse shows great teamwork in win over Loomis Chaffee

It was a warm day on the field, and with only 12 players on Westminster's side, Loomis agreed to play down to a "3-3-3 plus a goalie" model, allowing the Martlets to have two subs. It was a tough game and the competition was stiff. The girls had played Loomis earlier in the season, and it was clear that they had improved and were hungry to win.  The Pelicans fought hard but, with the dedication of the entire team working well together, Westminster was able to pull off another win. The Martlets communicated well and worked together as a team, trusting their teammates when they went for groundballs and making nice connections up field. It was fun to watch the team improve their checking skills – checking accurately and consistently throughout the game.

Layla Ennis ’19 scored the first goal with an assist from Caroline Kelter ’18 early in the first half. Loomis put up a good fight but momentum was on Westminster's side thanks to Kate Lovas ’18, who won many of the draws. Mia Stevens ’18 had a great game in goal, stopping quite a few shots including an impressive block of a hard direct shot during the first half. Indira Marzbani ’18 played her first ever lacrosse game and played great defense; she stuck with her player well and went for the ball.

The scorers for the day included Layla Ennis (four goals, two assists), Caroline Kelter (two goals, one assist), Fiona Fan ’18 (2 goals), Sophia Gasser ‘18 (one goal, one assist) and Alex Aiello ’17 (one assist).
