Third Boys' Hockey plays its best game in win over Avon Old Farms

In its best performance of the 2016 campaign, Third Boys' Hockey emerged victorious over a solid Winged Beaver team from Avon with a final of 4-1. With Alex Gadowksi '18 providing a solid backstop between the pipes, the pace quickened early, and the Martlets were successful in staving an early flurry from Avon. The Black and Gold struck first in the second with a nifty pass from Wick Carter'19 to a wide open Carson Roth '19, who buried his shot from the slot. With hardly a moment to celebrate, Jackson Schopp '19 saucered a beautiful pass to the streaking Grant Noble '18, notching the second of the game. The physical presence of Mason Horrigan '18 and Ethan Pulhala '18 stymied Avon's speed through neutral ice time and time again. Solid blue line play of SK Lee '18, Tim Harris'19, Tucker Wieber '18 and Tyler Rome '16 sent the signal that Avon would have to go through this group to get a goal. Westminster, however, was not yet done with the score sheet, as Ryan Szykowny '19 found open ice on a break away and froze the Avon tender with some sleight of hand dribbling and a bury to the back of the goal. Although Avon would slip one by Gadowski late in the game, SK Lee provided the badly needed insurance goal after Avon pulled their goalie. This win was a team one, and one of the best overall efforts from the ever-improving Third Boys' squad.
