Third Boys' Hockey loses early lead in defeat to the Bantams

In yet another fun and challenging local rivalry, the Third Boys's Hockey team competed and matched up well against a fast-skating and skilled Bantam A team from Simsbury. Behind the bench for the Bantams included Paul Simeon, father of Katie'16, Paul Melanson, uncle of Sarah '16, and alumnus Colin Cross '12. The first period was a fast-paced, back and forth affair, with both teams trying to establish their presence and set the pace. The Martlets struck first with a textbook two-on-one, as Grant Noble' 18 feathered a beautiful pass to Ethan Pulhala '18, who sniped a hot shot high and on the short side. Moments later Ryan Szykowny ' 17 found a streaking Wick Carter '19 up the middle, who released a solid wrist shot to beat the Simsbury tender again. The lead, however, would not stand, as Simsbury showed their speed not just once but twice to tie the contest with a couple of quick goals. While the Martlets had their chances in the third, Simsbury capitalized on a turnover that resulted in what would turn out to be the game winner. The boys return to action on Wednesday against an always feisty Winged Beaver squad from Avon.
