First Girls' Cross Country lose to a deep Winged Beavers team but show great improvement

The Westminster girls cross country team has improved considerably over the last six weeks and knew this year would be one of their best chances in years to beat Miss Porter's, a perennially solid Division 1 team. Oumou Kanoute '17 did her part, winning the race and becoming the 11th fastest Martlet to run the home course with her first run under 23 minutes. Abigayle Hovey '18 was second for Westminster and fourth overall; she also improved her time by 50 seconds and cracked the top 20 Martlet times on the home course. Co-captain Lauren Boures '15 finished sixth, which means the Westminster team was effectively tied with Miss Porter's after the first three runners from each team finished. Westminster’s neighbors from Farmington proved to be a little deeper and took the next four spots, sealing the meet. Rounding out the Martlet top seven were Grace Brentano '16 (best time on home course by over a minute), Sarah Minella '17 (improved time by an impressive 3 minutes), Nicole Fox '17, and co-captain Katie O'Connor '15. The girls will get a little break over the weekend and then return to race Canterbury in New Milford on Wednesday.
