Free Throws Make The Difference

The Martlets opened the season with a tough loss to the Wyverns in West Hartford.  Kingswood began the game with a hot hand and led the Martlets 12-3 after a few minutes.  Westminster dialed up the pressure defense and at halftime Kingswood led 26-23.  They put up a tough battle in the second half and cut the lead to one point.  In the end, Kingswood hit their free throws and prevailed 42-36.  David Carter '15 and Noah Fosse-Greiner '16 helped Westminster get back in the game with tough defense.   Carl Doucette '16 and Ken Barnes '16 were the kings of the rebound and Doucette spent time at the FT line after battling for offensive rebounds.  Henry Anderson '14 sparked a second half run that saw the Martlets draw to within a point.  Jack Werner '16 ad Scott Williams '16 also proved to tough on defense and in transition.  Werner was a calming presence on the offensive end, making good decisions with the ball.  The game came down to free throws and the Martlets were just a little cold from the line.
