Martlets Play Complete Game

The Thirds Boys' Soccer team earned a hard fought 3-2 win against Salisbury on Saturday afternoon.  Westminster played an outstanding game from start to finish.  John Vantine '13 continued his scoring streak as he notched the game's first goal.  Salisbury was awarded a penalty kick that tied the game up and that is how the teams went into halftime.  Salisbury was able to gain a 2-1 lead early in the second half and with leading scorer, Vantine, out with an injured arm other players would have to step up.  The whole team played hard throughout the second half and fought their way back into the game.  Ryan Seymour '14 scored his first goal of the season as he was able to head in a ball played into the box.  Ryan Mowery '13 outran every Salisbury defender to track down a through ball on his way to slotting the ball past the goalkeeper to give Westminster the 3-2 lead.  A chippy Salisbury team fought hard to get back into the game and Westminster did an outstanding job to keep their cool and not retaliate or talk back t
o Salisbury players trying to instigate.  This paid off as Salisbury was called for several fouls and Westminster was able to clear the ball from their defensive end.  Miguel Castello '13 and Evan Yenor '13 played a great game at center midfield as they worked hard both offensively and defensively and controlled the entire field.  Clay Cadieux '13, finally healthy, helped to anchor a very solid defensive unit.  David Lee '14 had a great first half in net helping to secure a 1-1 tie at halftime.
