Martlets Miss Opportunities, Lose By One

Westminster was on the road again and this trip was up north to Berkshire. The Martlets were eager to take the floor. The game started with both teams trading baskets. This game looked like a prize fight, punch and counter punch. The Bears answered ever time Westminster scored. This game clearly would go down to the wire. The Martlets went into the half down 21-25. The game was called close in the first half and Westminster needed to play smart to stay competitive. The Martlets came out with a burst to bring the game to a tie. Then with steal from Sean Kelley '10 and a pass from Rafi Rojas '10, Greg Miller '10 made a thunderous dunk to take the lead at the 11:25 mark, 34 - 32.  Both teams ended up in the bonus and plenty of foul shots were taken. The Bears turned the ball over with a minute on the clock and the Martlets had the chance to close out the game. A missed exchange by the Martlets on the inbound pass resulted with a turnover, and the Bears tied the game with a three point shot, 50 - 50. Westminster regained the ball with 24 seconds left in the game. The Martlets went down on offense and could not convert. The rebound went to the Bears. They moved down the floor and drove to the basket and the Berkshire player was fouled with 3.2 seconds on the clock. The Bear made the first and missed the second. The Martlets got the rebound and had on last chance. Westminster threw a full court pass which was intercepted. The game ended with a Bear victory, 51-50. The Martlets learned a lot about themselves and will be ready for their next challenge.
