Martlets Dominate But Fall To Winged Beavers

If great scoring chances counted as goals, the score would have been 20-14 in favor of Westminster.  But since only the balls that cross the line count, the Martlets fell to the Winged Beavers 4-2.  The game began with tremendous ball movement and pressure from Westminster.  Nick Ehrhardt '13 and Will Schmidt '13 controlled the middle of the field for the entire game.  Luke Cordasco '13 and Scott Shay '12 had good looks early in the game.  The score was 0-0 until the thirtieth minute when Avon scored twice in ten minutes - both on corner kicks.  Both times the corner kick touched no one.  Beckham could not have bent it better.  The Martlets trailed 2-0 at the break.  In the second half, Donald Sonn '12 made several miraculous saves in goal and Chris Echevarria '12 had his best game on defense.  Echevarria stopped two 1v1 breakaways.  The Martlets kept the pressure on AOF and hit the post three times!  Ehrhardt scored in the sixtieth minute to make the score 2-1.  The Beavers scored two more times before Shay fed Ehrhardt for the Martlets' second goal.  This was Westminster's best game thus far.  These same two teams face off again next Saturday in Avon.  The boys thank Mr. Aber for driving and assistant coaching.
