Martlets Surge Past Winged Beavers

Westminster Third Boys' Hockey improved their record to 8-2 on the season with a 2-1 win over Avon.  Westminster came out strong, controlling play in the Avon end for much of the first period.  Despite outshooting the Winged Beavers, the score remained knotted at zero until Robbie Hamblett '11 shoved one past the Avon netminder.  Though the goal was credited to Hamblett it was the effort of his line mates, Greg Lafaire '11 and Alex Chaffee '12, that made it possible as all three dug away at the loose rebound.  Avon rallied to tie the game at 1-1 in the second period behind physical play and stellar goaltending.  Though the day would belong to the Martlets as Sixth Form leader, Miguel Osio, found the back of the net on a Westminster penalty kill.  Osio's "seeing eye" shot from two strides inside the blue line gave the footless birds all the cushion they would need.  Special recognition goes to to Westminster netminder, John Bashaw '10, who allowed only one goal on 18 shots.  With only two games remaining the Martlets will look to put a strong finish on what has been a successful season.
