Martlets Sweep Avon

Third Boys' Hockey helped to complete the first sweep of Avon since 1996.  Rallying from an early one goal deficit, the Martlets put together one of the best team efforts all season to come away with a 4-1 victory at Avon.  It was a physical game that was much closer than the score indicates and the Winged Beavers gave Westminster all it could handle at times.  Fifth form net-minder John Bashaw came up huge with a number of point blank saves to keep the footless birds in contention early on.  Bashaw turned away 27 of the 28 shots he faced, while on the offensive end of the ice Robbie Hamblett ‘11 got things going for the Black and Gold , picking up a loose puck and calmly firing it over the sprawling Avon goaltender.  Westminster would rattle off two more goals (Miguel Osio ’09 and Mitch Bessey ’10), before Casey Bitterl ’11 put on the finishing touches with an empty netter.  Westminster improves to 5-2 on the season as they head into their Winter Long weekend.  The Martlets will look to pick up where they left off as they start their five game home stand with Hotchkiss on Wednesday.
