Martlets Lose In Double Overtime

This game is what prep school girls hockey is all about. Two teams killing themselves for victory, neither one with any quit what so ever in anything they do on the ice. In the first period, Westminster carried the play and scored two goals. Nicole Fox ‘10 scored on a a deflection of a Bethany Dymarczyk ‘08 slap shot about mid way through the period. Five minutes later she scored again, after another Dymarczyk slap shot went wide, but Fox grabbed the bounce off the boards and put it in for a two goal lead. In the second, Tabor was ready and they came out flying. Two minutes into the period they had scored to make it a one goal game. Though the Martlets gave up 19 shots, Kayla Lessard ‘08 stood tall made every other save. She was just outstanding in net. In the third, both teams had chances but finally on a power play Tabor tied the score. In the last minute Fox had a breakaway but the Tabor goalie was up to the challenge and robbed of the glory. The first overtime was an end-to-end affair. Both teams had their share of chances. Sara Ugalde ‘10 hit two posts. In the second overtime it was much of the same. Then with about 6 minutes to play Westminster was whistled for a penalty. Two kids were going for the puck our girl one the battle but was given a penalty. Tabor took advantage and scored on a scramble in front of the net. The end of a great season came too soon for this group of hard working girls.
