Big Win Over Taft

This was a great game, not because Westminster played their best but because they managed to get it done and win. In the first period, Taft came out flying. The Martlets matched their speed for most of it but they had the better of chances.Kayla Lessard ‘08 was really on her game and made every save. With 3 minutes to go, Nicole Palazzo ‘08 grabbed a loose puck in center ice and went in alone to make it 1-0. In the second, the play was more even though again Taft had most of the chances and again Lessard was rock solid in the net. On a Taft powerplay, again Palazzo made things happen. She took a pass from Marianne Specker ‘08 split the Taft defense and roofed a shot over the Taft goalie’s shoulder. Three minutes later, Taft struck back on another power play. The period ended 2-1. In the third, Taft came out with a vengeance but the Black and Gold would not break. Finally, Taft scored to tie the game with three minutes and nineteen seconds. But the Martlets did not quit, and 19 seconds later, Sara Ugalde ‘10 took a pass from Emily Walsh '09 and
scored the game winner. A goal that would not have been possible without the fantastic play of Lessard. On this day, she helped win this game. Next up, Berkshire this weekend.
